“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth.”
John 4:24
Worship
Worship is a very broad term that can only be defined by the relationship of the worshiper and the object of their worship. In that sense, every ministry of FBC is considered to be a ministry of worship. Worship is all about relationship. That relationship involves the spiritual (unseen) and physical (human). Worship of a Holy God requires alignment of the heart to the heart of God. He has made it clear that it is possible to honor Him with our lips while our hearts are far from Him. (Matt 15:8) He also tells us it is impossible to love Him if we do not love other people. (I John 4:21) Therefore, worship is directly related to loving God and loving humans.
At FBC, our approach to worship is simple. We do not define our worship by the songs that we sing, the sermons we preach, or the numbers that attend. We define our worship by loving God and loving other people.
Worship begins with God. Christ demonstrated His love toward us and died for us while we were sinners. (Rom 5:8) He loved us first. Living a life of love is the purest form of worship.
Music
Music in itself is not worship. It is, however, a miraculous expression of the heart. David said, “I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, O Lord, I will sing praises.” (Psalm 101:1) God created us. God created music. God created us to worship Him.
Music is a vehicle that the Creator gave us to connect with Him. Music is also a medium for connection with other human beings. That is why congregational worship should be a vertical (spiritual) and horizontal (physical) experience at the same time. Scripture provides many examples of how singing together has strengthened God’s people. Ephesians 5:19 commands the church to be “speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” God created us in His image. Jesus displayed many emotions (tears and laughter included). Although hyper-emotionalism is not our end goal, we recognize that there is a physical element of worship that is a reflection of His nature.
When worshiping with us at FBC, we pray you will experience God’s Spirit in the fullness of His grace, mercy, and love.
Worship Services
Our church family meets every Sunday morning at 10:30 for worship through music, arts, and teaching of God’s Word. Every week is unique, in that the music and teaching are married to support a central theme. This helps the congregation focus on a specific topic and encourages personal application. We strive to remain grounded in scripture while relevant to the world we live in. The redeeming message of Christ is unchanging, while our methods of delivering it are constantly adapting to reach our rapidly changing culture. FBC-Farmington is a place where truth meets relevance. You will find that many styles and genres are embraced and employed in our corporate worship.
While our time together on Sunday mornings is uplifting and Spirit-filled, it is important to understand that this is just a small part of the believer’s worship and service to Jesus Christ. We strongly encourage you to use your gifts and talents and get involved in ministries that God has created you to serve in (see other ministry pages). Also, your worship at FBC-Farmington will be more meaningful if you will get connected in a small group for accountability, encouragement, service, and growth. (see Connection groups, and Sunday School)
Worship Team
At FBC-Farmington, we believe in Jesus’ example of team leadership. Our worship team leads the congregation in musical expression of worship every Sunday morning. Sometimes the team consists of several singers (praise team) and musicians. Other times, it consists of the band and worship leader only. Drama and video are often employed to reinforce the topic of that week’s service. All songs and components of the services are designed to involve the congregation. If a song is sung without the congregation, it is offered as part of the worship to draw them in to adoration or reflection. Prayer is an important part of our worship. We usually have a time of prayer/meditation before the teaching.
Drama Team
Many talented individuals help make drama an effective tool in the corporate worship setting. Often, we use short skits to enhance a sermon topic.
Worship Media/Tech Team
Our sound, lights, and screen operators are part of our worship team, and their service is considered to be valuable in aiding and enhancing the quality of our corporate worship services.
When you worship at FBC, we pray that God will touch your heart in a way that will lead to desire to know Him more and embrace lifestyle worship!
“Worship is not one segment of the Christian life among others. Worship is the entire Christian life.” - John Frame
